The Block

We have developed an, in Finland unique concept of multigenerational housing. The concept unites people of all ages in a multigenerational block. The development process started in 2010 and besides a wide range of companies, it also involved Aalto University, Tekes, The Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland ARA, the Ministry of Environment and the City of Helsinki.

Hoas is a non-profit foundation that rents out, builds and maintains housing for students in the capital region. There are around 18 500 students in over 9200 Hoas rooms, studios and family or roomie apartments.
Hoas building in the Generations Block was completed at the end of 2015 and has 102 rental apartments.

Asuntosäätiö (Housing Foundation) is a building developer and property owner specialised in developing diversed housing areas and production. Annually, it produces around 500 apartments in different forms of ownership and it now owns almost 17 000 apartments mainly right-of-occupancy. Additionally, resident co-operation plays a significant role.


Into the Generations Block Asuntosäätiö produced hitas-regulated owner-occupied housing including 47 apartments. Homes are designed for various stages of life from studios to apartments of more than 100 square metres.
